We need to share. We need to share it all. It is wrong that “we” – Canadians – have all this fresh water and other resources simply because we were born on this land. We took the land from others, and even if we hadn’t, there are billions of people on the planet who don’t have enough. And we have too much. We need to share.
I live in a palace, with trees, and plumbing, and safe streets, and heating and cooling, and easy access to food. I can get health care when sick, and charity when poor. This isn’t fair. I share my bounty in small ways – giving away so many things, helping children with special needs, and teaching my children to understand their privilege and to share with those with less.
What would the world look like if we all shared in large ways? If everyone who wanted to come to Canada did so? We would have to share our homes, and food, and wealth – why not? Isn’t it the right thing to do? Isn’t it the pragmatic thing to do? Those without could one day take their ‘fair share’ by force.
